These are surprisingly good at doing what they're sold for- keeping out light. As long as you get a dark colour, they will work really quite well. Sure they aren't studio blackout curtain quality, but they cost a fraction of the price and weigh a fraction of the weight. You'll get a good dark room though. The kind with the eyelets at the top for curtain poles are particularly good- as they tend to sit higher, so will block more light at the top. They are functional rather than fancy- I am sure some people would blow a gasket at how Lulu Lyttle they aren't, but they do the job for me. They are easy to put up, and look basically fine. The black ones with the silver five-pointed stars look like they're from the stage show of a middling magician, but are all the more charming for it. I have bought multiple pairs of these now- we started with a pair for the living room to replace some curtains that had seen better days. They did a good job and seemed to block light well too. We then picked up a pair for the bedroom, to make it easier to avoid waking up incredibly early in the summer- this was surprisingly effective. Finally, the spare room had to be re-purposed as a home office, so a plain black pair were bought for in there. This massively improved the usability of the space for video editing, as there were no huge glowing cottony window rectangles reflecting in every monitor any more. Essentially, these curtains seem practical and effective for keeping light out. They won't give you a completely lab/studio black out, nor should they be your only source of darkness for all your hipster retro loading of 35mm and medium format rollfilm onto reels for developing. However, with a little care, they will keep most light out and let you sleep better, nurse your migraine or get up to no good. For the money, they're great. Do be aware that if you primarily want them for light blocking, that you should probably choose the darkest colour that you can. They are more or less just a single piece of woven fabric- so the lighter ones will probably let more light in.

Absolutely lovely. Great material. Strong and thick. Definitely blackout and keeps the cold out hence being thermal curtain. Definitely recommend. Hoping they stay ok in the long run as only time tells with quality however so far so good.

I was very close to sending these back for a refund, based on the fact that they aren't particularly dark, (considering they are advertised as dark grey) the material is very thin, and the acoustic and thermal properties are questionable. However, they do a reasonably good job of providing a blackout, the curtain rings seem quite sturdy, and the colour actually isn't unpleasant (even though I really wanted a DARK grey). The material is quite lightweight, but it's quite pleasant to the touch. It was a bit creased when I took it out of the packaging - which possibly wouldn't have been an issue had the material been heavier - but that's nothing I can't sort out with a steamer. One interesting issue is going to be how well they stand up to having the windows open if there's any wind outside. My previous curtains were about 50% heavier (at a guess) and they held up against the wind reasonably well. I'm not sure these will. That said, I haven't added any tie backs (yet) so this is not a showstopper. The colour is identical on both sides, which is what I wanted. Several other producs had different colour linings. Note that in the photo I have the interior lights on, which is why the room doesn't look especially blacked out! Also, there is light leakage from the sides, because the curtain pole extends out a bit more than average from the wall. This isn't an issue for me. I'm not looking for a total blackout, just to stop direct sunlight coming in. I have no way of measuring the difference in thermal insulation between these and my old curtains, and I would say that this is just a bit of advertising puff and not to be taken seriously. Similarly with the acoustic properties. I can't discern any differences in keeping external noise out, making sure internal noise does not get out, or in acoustically treating my room against early reflections and other unwanted acoustic artefacts. It was the implied acoustic properties that made me buy these curtains in the first place, and I don't think they score well in this regard. Secondary to this was the blackout properties and I give that 4 out of 5 in terms of how effective they are. You certainly can't see any light through the material itself. Thermal insulation wasn't on my decision list but again, I can't discern any tangible improvement. I'll review that in the summer to see if it keeps the room cooler, but at the moment (mid spring) it's certainly not keeping the room any warmer. All that said, I will be keeping the curtains and telling clients who visit the studio that they have special acoustic properties that help them sing better :-)

Really happy with these. I was really surprised how soft they felt because they weren't expensive, I got the pink lavender for my daughters room 42x63cm only paid £15. Absolute bargain. They even block out the sun. Would definitely recommend.
